Lainz Tunnel Project, Vienna The southern stretch of the Lainz Tunnel near Vienna, built in a cut and cover construction, incorporates 59 bored piles which have been installed as energy piles. The 100 kW of geothermal energy harnessed can be used to heat a nearby school. Experiments are being conducted on this installation by the Technical University of Vienna.
